VU Meter turns MeowKit into a classic analog sound meter. Its built-in microphone listens to the surrounding sound, and the white needle responds in real time. No setup is required. Open the app and make some noise.

Open VU Meter

Open Apps → VU Meter. When the dial appears, MeowKit begins listening through its built-in microphone.

Read the meter

The white needle moves with the sound around MeowKit:
  • In a quiet room, it stays near the left side.
  • Louder sounds move it toward the right.
  • Sudden sounds make it respond quickly.
  • When the room becomes quiet again, it returns smoothly.
For a clearer response, place MeowKit on a stable surface and keep the microphone opening uncovered.

Press and hold B for 2 seconds to return to the Apps menu.

How it works

VU Meter samples sound through MeowKit’s built-in microphone and converts its level into needle movement. The needle responds quickly to louder sounds and falls back more gently, making changes easy to follow.
VU Meter provides visual feedback. It is not a calibrated sound-level meter and should not be used for professional noise or hearing-safety measurements.

If the needle does not move

  1. Move closer to MeowKit and speak or clap once.
  2. Check that the microphone opening is not covered.
  3. Exit VU Meter and open it again.
  4. If it still does not respond, restart MeowKit.

Privacy

VU Meter processes microphone samples on MeowKit. It does not save recordings or send audio over the network.
